What makes Tlc so different?
Unlike many online training organisations, Teacher Training is not our bread and butter. First and foremost we teach English for a living.
We are a fully operational language school. Teaching English pays our bills. It’s what we do to earn our salaries.
For us Teacher Training is the icing on the cake. It allows us to pass on to the world what we know best. We are, in fact, what "you" want to be – TESOL teachers – and we have gained all the skills (through years of experience) and at the same time amassed a vast knowledge pool - including the delivery of both the Trinity CertTESOL and Cambridge CELTA one month intensives in Tlc Centre, Las Palmas.
With all this in mind, we have now developed a no frills, down to earth study programme, that gets to grip with all the things that need to be known to survive in the classroom, and still maintains the highest of standards from which it was conceived.
Our course materials have been a work in progress for over 30 years and have been honed to a perfection that can only be appreciated when compared to others. They are user friendly - highly professional - and you are invited to check the quality out for yourself (see sample course pages)
Our motto is "you are only as good as your last lesson" and you have to be a working teacher to identify with this. At the end of the day we "sell" the English language, and if the product is not up to standard, we lose our business. This is exactly where you will live too!
Packaging the product is very important and many providers get away with a substandard course because of high quality websites, good marketing and low "attractive" prices - but really, we all know that you only get what you pay for. A nice shiny box is not good enough and questions have to be asked.
- Is this the right course for me?
- Is it too cheap or too expensive?
- Does the course have international value?
- Is it accredited, externally monitored and does it follow a professional code of conduct?
- Is course content and material tried and tested over a period of years, and constantly revised and brought up to date for an ever demanding market?
These are some of the questions that will go through your mind – and the biggest one of all – what about teaching practice?
This is by far the weakest area of most distance training courses, and when you check them out - what do they offer?
We need classroom experience. This is where we learn our trade and develop our skills – and most of our trainees agree – you can´t have too much "hands on" classroom time. It is surely the most important single part of a teacher training course.
All Tlc courses offer a teaching practice component. Either through our 1 - to -1 study vacation programme or through the ACTDEC TP Portfolio Scheme.
