Which Tlc Course?

Teacher and student

Tlc Teacher Training Courses are run at 3 levels and in 2 forms.

Stand alone - the course is conducted entirely as a distance programme,

Hybrid - part distance and part onsite (study at the centre) including the assessed teaching practice and observation elements of a normal intensive course.

All Tlc courses are accredited by ACTDEC - the Accreditation Council for TESOL Distance Education Courses and on successful completion of the course a certificate is conferred by ACTDEC in addition to a diploma awarded by Tlc and validated by ACTDEC.

Preliminary Certificate

ACTDEC level 1

The ACTDEC Level 1 course is a 70 hour (minimum) course for anyone seeking an introduction to the world of teaching English to speakers of other languages, leading to the Preliminary Certificate of Educational Studies in TESOL and the qualification Pre-Cert.(ES)TESOL. There are three introductory units each comprising of three separate modules:

  1. The Practice of TESOL
  2. The Teaching of Pronunciation
  3. Language Awareness

This is an ideal "Gap Year" qualification for anyone wishing to work their way around the world.

Certificate of Educational Studies

ACTDEC level 2

The ACTDEC Level 2 course is a 150 hour (minimum) course of studies leading to the Certificate of Educational Studies in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and the qualification Cert.(ES)TESOL and is designed to provide a thorough introduction to the theory and practice of TESOL. The course is comprised of 24 separate modules and answer keys each with a tutor-assessed worksheet.

  1. Study skills
  2. The Practice of TESOL
  3. Practical phonetics
  4. Language Awareness
  5. Lesson Planning and Preparation

College of Teachers Certificate of Educational Studies.

At ACTDEC Level 2 successful candidates will also receive the College of Teachers award COES(TESOL). All candidates are required to complete a College of Teachers registration form and pay the required College fee on successful completion of the course.

Certificate in (the Theory and Methodology of) TESOL

ACTDEC level 3

The ACTDEC Level 3 course is a 250 hour (minimum) course in the Theory and Methodology of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages leading to the qualification Cert.(TM)TESOL and to the Associate membership of the College of Teachers - ACoT(TESOL) The course consists of 28 modules comprising the following units:

  1. Study skills
  2. General Linguistics
  3. The Practice of TESOL
  4. Language Awareness
  5. Lesson Planning and preparation

This course, leading to Accredited Teacher status, aims to equip each trainee with the knowledge and skills essential to function effectively as a teacher of English to speakers of other languages at a number of levels and in a variety of teaching situations.

All certificates conferred by ACTDEC in addition to a diploma awarded by Tlc and validated by ACTDEC

Level 2 and 3 courses qualify you for membership of The College of Teachers (optional) if you so wish. (see Tlc links)

We are also a centre for the "hands on" 2 week residential Teaching Practice component of the College of Teachers Advanced Certificate and Diploma Courses.
